New Specialty - Rheumatology

September 4, 2024

Mille Lacs Health System is excited to add a new specialty to our service offerings. Starting the first week of September two rheumatologists will join our team of providers. These doctors will rotate schedules providing telehealth medical appointments every other Friday via our clinics. Patients will need to first schedule an appointment with their primary care provider to get a referral for an appointment with one of these specialists.

For those unfamiliar, a rheumatologist is a doctor who specializes in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases that affect the muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, bones, and organs.

Some symptoms that might suggest a visit with a rheumatologist include:

  • Joint pain that doesn’t get better, or involves multiple joints.
  • Joint pain, and you have close relatives with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or other inflammatory disorders.
  • Joint pain, and you have a close relative with psoriasis.
  • Joint pain accompanied by symptoms such as fever, fatigue, or weight loss.
