MLHS ER wins award

Mille Lacs Health System in Onamia has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Emergency Care by the Women’s Choice Award®, America’s trusted referral source for the best in healthcare. The award signifies that MLHS is in the top 8% of 4,191 U.S. hospitals offering emergency care services.
The methodology for America’s Best Hospitals for Emergency Care award is unique in that it combines Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey results with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences. The award recognizes excellence in emergency care based on several process of care measures focused on time patients spent in the emergency department, including:
- Time to admission
- Time from admission to room
- Door to diagnosis
Criteria for selecting MLHS as one of America’s best also included the average time before outpatients with chest pain or a possible heart attack received an ECG, and the average time patients with broken bones had to wait before getting pain medication. Awarded hospitals represent those with emergency departments with average measure times in the highest 25th to 50th percentile in the country.
MLHS COO Kim Kucera said, “The award is especially important to us, given that we know long waits and high crowding can negatively impact patient outcomes.” This includes patients leaving without receiving medical treatment, longer overall length of hospital stay and an increase in mortality rates. “We are very proud of our team at MLHS, which involves many different departments that all work together to provide the best emergency care.”
The Women’s Choice Award recommendations are an important consideration used by women in selecting a hospital for themselves and their family. Women make over 80% of healthcare decisions and the company instills confidence to these decision-makers to choose which emergency departments in their communities will take care of their loved ones quickly and with the best possible care.
Mille Lacs Health System is one of 336 national award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for emergency care in the U.S. by the Women’s Choice Award.
