Some groups can still sign up for MNsure

Mille Lacs Health System wants to remind patients that although open enrollment for insurance through the MNsure website has now closed, some groups can still sign up.

Many people who ̶ in the past ̶ had been told they did not qualify for Medical Assistance, Medicaid or Minnesota Care, are now being accepted into these programs through MNsure. (The difference between those three programs has to do with income and age.) For people who think they may be eligible for one of these programs, and want to explore that further, the enrollment period is open year-round.

Other groups who are eligible for enrollment year-round are small businesses and Native Americans (due to the provisions in the Affordable Care Act.) Additionally, life events that may qualify an individual for a special open enrollment period include: marriage, the birth of a child, loss of income or health insurance, and other events. You can visit the MNsure website or call them if you want to know more about these “life events.”

You can go to the MNsure website to learn more. You can also visit one of the trained assisters at Mille Lacs Health System by calling 320-532-2655 to make an appointment. The assisters can help you through the process. The MNsure phone lines also are open: 1-855-366-7873 (1-855-3MNSURE).

When applications are made online at MNsure, a laptop or desktop computer are the only successful ways to apply. Tablets and smartphones will not work with the system. People using Internet Explorer are having a difficult time, but better browsers to use are Google Chrome or Firefox. If you have been seeing the 403 error, clearing your cache and cookies will help with this problem. You can get help with this by MNsure.

There are some other exceptions for enrollment, and these latest updates will appear on the MNsure site, mnsure.org
