Mille Lacs Health System is announcing the addition of two new physician assistants to their family of care.
Bess Kuzma will start working at MLHS in March. She graduated from St. Catherine University in St. Paul with a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies. From White Bear Lake, MN, Kuzma was working as a researcher when her grandfather became ill. Watching people care for him, she became inspired, and so she began her medical journey as a nursing assistant. Along with family medicine, she is interested diabetes care and geriatric mental health. “I want to do my best to inspire healthy lifestyles and promote a peaceful, inclusive, and welcoming clinic environment,” Kuzma says.
The staff and providers at MLHS were big draws for Kuzma. She says from her first day in rotation, it was clear that staff cared very deeply for their patients. “They care for entire families,” Kuzma noted. “And I’ve seen providers go above and beyond to serve their community by volunteering their time, and other special gestures that are really only possible in rural health service. It’s the commitment to community and patients that brings me here.”
Travis Green, along with Beth Kuzma, did his Master’s project here at MLHS, as well as two medical rotations. He graduated from the Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies program at St. Catherine’s University. Green grew up in rural North Carolina, so he says he feels “right at home” away from big cities. He flew medical evacuations teams around Afghanistan and Iraq, which piqued his interest in medicine. He loves family medicine, and is also interested in cardiology and hematology. He says he believes in shared decision-making with patients. He also will begin seeing patients in March.
Mille Lacs Health System welcomes both Kuzma and Green to the MLHS community of care.
