Mille Lacs Health System
Mille Lacs Health System will be holding a fall wellness event called “Healthy Me-The Mind/Body Connection,” on Oct. 1, from 10-2 p.m. at the Holy Cross Center on the MLHS campus in Onamia. The event will put its focus on how to care take of ourselves when life gets challenging. Whether you’re looking for some new ways to de-stress, advice about being a caregiver, news about trending mental and emotional health issues, information and education about dementia and Alzheimer’s, engaging facts about healthy eating and moving, or just want to come learn and lunch with us, you’re welcome to join.
A medical inflatable exhibit of the human brain will be present at the event. It’s an entertaining walk-through learning experience with a tour guide and lots of information about the many facts, problems and mysteries of the human brain. It’s a first in our region, so don’t miss this chance to see it.
Dr. Sue Bikkie, DNP,GNP, from MLHS’s Senior Care Unit, will be speaking on “Recognizing Dementia Before the Diagnosis.” Dr. Lynne Steiner from MLHS will speak on Advanced Care Directives.
There will also be half-hour mini-classes on topics such as nutrition for mental health, chair yoga and breathing for de-stressing, aromatherapy for better health, mindfulness for easing tension, and migraine help. Booths and tables for information regarding the MLHS Senior Care Unit, care for the caregiver, cancer support, MLHS rehab and stress relief at work, financial wellness, and more, will offer education about topics all relating to ways you can de-stress your life. Three massage therapists will be on hand to give chair massages.
The event is free, there will be a lunch served, door prizes, and each participant will receive a bag of healthy giveaways. Bring your kids, too, the walk-through brain exhibit is a fun learning tool for the whole family.
