The annual St. Francis Award, given to a nominated employee at Mille Lacs Health System, was awarded on Fri., Jan 19, to Connie Hermel. Hermel began working at MLHS in 1992, as a bookkeeper in the nursing home. She went on to manage the business office and is now working in the Admissions/Reception Department.

Mille Lacs Health System supports and encourages all employees to create a caring, compassionate, healing environment for the patients and residents served. The annual St. Francis Award was established in 1989 to identify fellow employees who are both role models and an inspiration to others. Employees nominate those they feel are worthy of the award.

Connie Hermel is one of the friendly faces one sees first when checking in to see a provider. In the submission comments, a fellow employee noted, “Connie’s bubbly personality is not only an asset to the Isle Clinic, but makes everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Patients ask for her, and co-workers can’t wait to work with her.”

Doctors Arden Virnig and Patti Hook presented the award to Hermel, and Dr. Hook said, “It’s not surprising that the patient satisfaction scores for the Isle Clinic shine, where Connie is there welcoming patients, offering hospitality, kindness, and respect. She contributes so much to the positive image of MLHS in the community, and brings joy to the workplace.”

The 2015 St. Francis Award selection committee is comprised solely of past St. Francis Award winners.
