Doctors win St. Francis award

The annual St. Francis Award, given to a nominated employee at Mille Lacs Health System, was awarded on Jan. 27 to doctors Patti Hook and Arden Virnig, Family Practice Physicians at MLHS.

Mille Lacs Health System supports and encourages all employees to create a caring and compassionate healing environment for those served. The annual St. Francis Award was established in 1989 to identify fellow employees who are both role models and an inspiration to others.

The two doctors, who are married, have been with the health system for 25 years, and received the award  at the MLHS annual holiday party on Jan. 27. Nomination comments about Dr. Patti Hook included “Patti is the matriarch of peace and love. She truly cares about her community and the safety of others and makes it known that she is there for support.”  Dr. Arden Virnig was cited as a “Shining example of compassion. He has always been a man who will reach out to comfort others, both as a provider and a friend.”

Bill Nelson, CEO, said,“Our patients, residents and staff are so fortunate to have this physician couple as valued members of both our Medical Staff and our community. We appreciate everything they do for MLHS.”

The 2015 St. Francis Award selection committee is comprised solely of past St. Francis Award winners.
